THROW BACK THURSDAY - LRCHS TIGERS FOOTBALL!  PLUS CLASS NEWS

It doesn't matter that yesterday was the last day of the fundraiser, I'm sure anything you might want to contribute would be appreciated.  I know one thing, they need money to buy the guys dinner when they are traveling out of town for a game.  We need to get the LRCHS Tigers back into First Place again like they were in our day!!!!

We only have 1 day left to meet our $15K goal! With 3,400 followers on Facebook, we can easily reach our target if everyone who supports Tiger Football donates something. We need $2,240 to reach our GOAL! Just like in football, the little things make a big difference. THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far.

PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE! Check this out:

1956 CLASS NEWS

Joe Crow has taken his 12 year old grandson on the trip of a lifetime to Alaska!

Many may remember, but I lived at the state hospital in a staff residence near eighth and Abigail and most of the Heights kids passed by my house driving to Central. My father was a staff psychiatrist there and our house was right in the middle of what is now I-630.

Back then everything was segregated, and my father had the “colored male” service, which amounted usually to around 300 patients. These people were housed, medicated and cared for and since state hospitals now no longer exist they make up the homeless we see on the streets today. They ranged from alcoholics to schizophrenics to mental defects and to the criminally insane. Many were “lifers” and were there till they died. I knew a few who were actually born at the state hospital from two patients getting together.

The reason patients and staff were admitted free to Travelers Field through a special door along the third base line was that it was built on state property, and from the beginning there was an agreement that patients and state employees could attend travelers games without charge. The same agreement originally applied to War Memorial Stadium, but that was rescinded in the 60s.

I worked at the state hospital a couple of summers as an Aide, made $160 a month and worked the graveyard shift. Basically we counted heads, put them all to bed and in the morning counted again, got them up and fed them and that was my day. Total patient population of the Arkansas State hospital in those days counting the Little Rock and Benton units would be in the 3000 to 4000 range.

Mary Lou, Think you will go out into history (notice I didn’t say “down into history” ha ha) as the person who has consistently and consecutively written weekly class notes.

I'll be honest with you, Delrena, it surprises me almost every week that I have something to write about!!!  And they say we're O.L.D.

What are they talking about????  We still remember playing jacks and Spin the Bottle!!!!  ML

My friends called Lois, old lady Grimmett because she had very gray hair and we thought she WAS old. Notta.
