THROW BACK THURSDAY - UNTIL JANUARY 2025! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A few weeks ago, a few of us from our Swing Band Reunion and members of a couple of other local bands meet with the owner's son at the Dreamland Ballroom which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The Friends of Dreamland is a non-profit formed in 2009 to preserve Taborian Hall’s Dreamland Ballroom, and tell its history. The Taborian Hall at 800 W. 9th St. has stood in downtown Little Rock for over 100 years. Once a central fixture of religious expression, fraternal support, economic progress, and entertainment in the African-id you know… Taborian Hall was the most expensive building constructed in Little Rock in 1918. Downstairs in this building is the Arkansas Flag and Banner. If you've never been there, I encourage you to stick your head in sometime. You won't believe all the great things they have for sale.
Those of us representing the Swing Band Reunion attended this meeting to discuss the possibility of our band, and others, playing once a month in the Dreamland ballroom, say, on a Sunday Afternoon for a "tea dance", similar to what a band does in Hot Springs at the Arlington Hotel one Sunday a month. We're hoping something will come of this!!!!
The Dreamland Ballroom.
Only 6 days to go!!!! Hope you all will have as much fun as I will with my two great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Cali! Kennedy is on her way to the White House with her Mommy and Daddy for an open house. Her Daddy said it took him 30 years to get an invitation to the White House, but it only took Kennedy one year!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
